What a Certificate of Analysis actually tells you
A Certificate of Analysis is the laboratory record for one specific manufactured batch. That distinction matters more than anything else on this page: a COA describes the material that came out of a single production run — not the compound in general, and not our catalogue as a whole. Two vials bearing the same product name but different lot numbers have different certificates, and only the one matching the number on your vial describes what you are actually holding.
What gets measured
- Identity
- Confirmation that the material is the compound it claims to be, established by mass spectrometry. The measured mass is compared against the theoretical mass for the expected sequence.
- Purity
- The proportion of the sample that is the target compound rather than related substances, residual reagents or truncated sequences. Established by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and reported as a percentage of total peak area.
- Appearance
- The physical form and colour of the material as received, which is often the first indication that a batch has been stored or transported outside its specification.
- Net content
- The quantity of material in the vial, measured against the stated fill weight.
How to read the purity figure
Purity is reported as a percentage of total chromatographic peak area — for example 99.2%. That is a measurement of one batch, on one day, by one method. It is not a property of the compound and not a guarantee covering every vial we have ever sold. A supplier worth buying from gives you the number for your specific batch and the chromatogram behind it. Treat a single catalogue-wide purity claim with no batch-level documentation as what it is: marketing.
Independent testing
Purity and identity testing is carried out by a third-party analytical laboratory rather than in-house, so that the party making the claim is not also the party verifying it. We will name the testing laboratory and supply the full analytical report, including the raw chromatogram, on request.
If your certificate does not match your vial
If your lot number returns no certificate, or the certificate does not match what you received, stop using the material and email support@pepvoro.co.uk with the lot number and a photograph of the label. A mismatch is something we want to hear about immediately.
